Antoine Fuqua’s “The Equalizer 2” is a sequel to the 2014 film, continuing the story of Denzel Washington’s character, Robert McCall. While the action sequences are impressive and Denzel’s performance remains strong, some viewers may find the plot lacking in depth and originality compared to its predecessor.

Plot:

The sequel offers plenty of thrilling action sequences but falls short in terms of plot depth and originality. While the revenge-driven storyline delivers intense moments, I felt the overall connection to the story was weaker compared to the first film. Also the plot is very predictable, which was the biggest problem of the movie.

Acting:

Denzel Washington delivers another excellent performance as Robert McCall, showcasing his charisma and ferocity. Despite the predictability of the plot, Washington’s portrayal elevates the character and carries the film. Pedro Pascal’s performance adds to the ensemble, although it may not be his strongest I have seen from him. I also enjoyed the chemistry between Denzel and Ashton Sanders making a good chemistry, nearly like father and son.

Cinematography/Effects:

The film delivers in its action sequences, with well-executed cinematography and intense sound effects adding to the excitement. While some scenes may feel choppy due to editing choices, the overall impact especially of the action-packed finale is satisfying.

Genre:

As an action movie, “The Equalizer 2” delivers on thrills but falls short of greatness. While fans of Denzel Washington and the first film may enjoy the ride, others may find the overall experience mediocre compared to similar genre offerings. For me I think the action genre has much more better to offer, but this movie is still enjoyable, just wouldn’t been my first choice.

Scenery/Music:

The film’s scenery is solid, with standout moments during the hurricane scenes providing a visually satisfying backdrop. While the music complements the action, it may not be particularly memorable.

Engagement/Boredom:

Despite its flaws, “The Equalizer 2” offers an entertaining ride for action enthusiasts, particularly those who enjoyed the first movie. While the story may not be memorable, Denzel Washington’s performance ensures an engaging experience throughout.

Recommendation:

Overall, “The Equalizer 2” is recommended primarily for fans of action movies and Denzel Washington. While it may not offer groundbreaking storytelling, it delivers enough thrills to satisfy adult action junkies.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
